I have been in and out of active addiction for several years. Through the court system I was ordered to go to in-patient treatment, which I successfully completed. I went on to stay at the facility for reintegration, where I was allowed to come and go to seek out employment. I felt I wasn’t quite strong enough mentally for this step in my life. My significant other was sentenced to 36 months in prison leaving me to be alone for the first time in my life, with not only an addiction, but also severe codependency issues.
I started volunteering at Eagle Nest Inc. I had seen these ladies in action, and admired them immensely. They truly make a difference in so many women’s lives. helping them to reach their full potential, and become successful, productive citizens of the community. I’m living proof.
I came to them very lost and broken. Over time in my active addiction I had lost my spirituality. I felt like a lost soul, with no hope of having a real future in sight. I had let my shame, and guilt destroy my self-worth, and self-esteem.
The ladies at Eagle Nest Inc. showed me support, love, and encouragement. I kept coming back each day looking forward to the next. I was immediately welcomed with open arms. You could sense the presence of the Lord working through them, which gave me hope, and faith that I had long since lost for a better future.
I was given structure, and was held accountable. They taught me life skills, time management and how to dress to sr 58 M. before you knew it, my self-worth, and self-esteem was soaring through the roof.
My confidence grew stronger each, and every day, and my communication skills improved.
I was taught good work ethic and skills. I found myself coming to life again. I was interacting with the customers, working the register, and scheduling their appointments. I was empowered to want to succeed, and keep striving to reach my full potential.
With their help I was finally nudged from the nest, so to speak, and led to my current position as a secretarial clerk at The Cowley CourierTraveler. It was a perfect match for me. I’m loving and living life to the fullest.
I couldn’t have done it without the support of these ladies, and their mentoring. I also couldn’t imagine my life without them in it. I continue to go back as often as I can and they continue to life my spirits. They are without a doubt like family to me, and some of my biggest supporters.
I urge you and others to help them to be able to help others, like me, to reach their full potential.
Thanks,
Susan
